On the south side of Chico, Chapmantown is one of the area’s oldest and most affordable neighborhoods, named after Augustus Chapman, one of Chico’s early settlers. It’s technically unincorporated Butte County land rather than part of the city itself, so some homes are on well and septic instead of city services. It has a strong, tight-knit community feel with deep roots and plenty of local history.
